Role-Based Journeys
One Platform, Every Perspective
Select a role to explore their complete journey through Civic CRM — from day-one onboarding to daily workflows and strategic outcomes.
Department Analyst
From Data Request to Self-Service Insight
Follow the journey of a department analyst who replaces manual spreadsheet compilation and 5–10 day data request turnaround with self-service dashboards, natural language queries, and scheduled reports — all from the unified data warehouse.
Query
Ask the data
Type a question in plain English or French — 'show me service request volumes by department for the last 12 months' — and get an instant chart with a plain-language explanation of how the query was interpreted.
The Natural Language Query Interface (spec 4.1) parses the question, identifies relevant warehouse tables, dimensions, measures, and time ranges, generates the underlying SQL, and returns results as an auto-selected visualization. Follow-up questions refine results — 'now break it down by ward' or 'exclude recreation' — without starting over. A suggestion engine proposes related questions based on the current result set.
Explore
Click to drill down
Click any bar, slice, or data point to drill down to the underlying records. Right-click to filter, exclude, or pivot. Every exploration step is recorded in a breadcrumb trail for easy navigation back to any point.
The Point-and-Click Data Exploration canvas (spec 4.3) enables progressive refinement through visual interaction. Click a department bar to see its case types. Right-click a ward to filter the entire dashboard. Drag dimensions between rows, columns, and filters for instant re-aggregation. Save any exploration state as a dashboard widget or share as a link with full state preserved.
Build
Create a dashboard
Drag widgets from the palette onto the grid layout — bar charts for budget comparisons, KPI cards for metrics, heatmaps for temporal patterns, map widgets for geographic distribution. Live preview updates as you configure each widget.
The Drag-and-Drop Dashboard Designer (spec 2.1) provides a visual canvas with auto-alignment, responsive breakpoints, and undo/redo. Select a data source, choose a visualization type, map fields to axes, and configure filters, colours, and labels through point-and-click. The guided wizard walks first-time users through creating their first dashboard in under five minutes.
Share
Publish & distribute
Share dashboards with your department, specific roles, or the entire organization. Set view-only or edit permissions. Schedule automated report delivery via email with PDF or Excel attachments.
Dashboard Sharing (spec 2.4) supports individual users, roles, departments, or organization-wide publication with view/edit/owner permissions. Role-based access control ensures users see only permitted data. Scheduled Report Generation (spec 9.1) auto-generates and distributes reports as PDF/Excel attachments on configurable schedules. Secure iframe URLs enable embedding in intranet or council chamber displays.
Alert
Set threshold triggers
Configure alerts when metrics cross boundaries — open work orders exceed 500, daily tax receipts fall 20% below average, overtime hours spike. Alerts delivered via email, in-app notification, or webhook.
Query Scheduling & Alerting (spec 4.5) enables any saved query to trigger threshold-based notifications. Conditions support absolute thresholds, percentage changes, trend deviations, and record count triggers. Alert delivery channels include email, in-app notification, and webhook integration. Users configure alert sensitivity to balance signal-to-noise ratio.
Export
Any format, any time
Export any dashboard, query result, or exploration session to CSV, Excel (with formatting and drill-down sheets), or PDF (with municipal branding). Export audit logging supports MFIPPA compliance.
Data Export (spec 4.4) delivers results in CSV, Excel (XLSX with formatting, data types, and multiple sheets for drill-down levels), and PDF (formatted report with charts as images, municipal branding, headers, footers). Bulk export packages combine multiple widgets into a single workbook or PDF. Every export is logged with user, timestamp, dataset, row count, and format for MFIPPA compliance.
