Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions from environmental staff, energy managers, IT teams, and procurement officers evaluating Civic Climate & ESG.

Civic Climate & ESG is a comprehensive climate action and ESG management platform built specifically for Canadian municipalities (population 5,000–100,000+). It tracks greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2, 3), manages climate action plans, monitors energy performance, generates ESG reports, and demonstrates progress toward net-zero targets. It supports both corporate and community emissions tracking aligned with FCM PCP milestones and federal/provincial climate reporting. Delivered as a full source code licence, not a SaaS subscription.
Yes. The platform is designed to support municipalities at any stage — from those creating their first GHG inventory (FCM PCP Milestone 1) to those in active implementation and monitoring (Milestones 4 and 5). Start with the GHG inventory and energy tracking modules, then enable climate action management, ESG reporting, and climate risk modeling as your program matures.
Civic Climate & ESG is purpose-built for Canadian municipal operations. It includes FCM PCP five-milestone tracking, O.Reg. 507/18 automated energy reporting, Canadian emission factors (Ontario grid factor updated annually), GPC community inventory methodology, and TCFD-aligned ESG disclosure. Generic sustainability platforms require extensive customization and typically lack Canadian regulatory awareness. The source code licence model means you own the software rather than paying recurring SaaS fees.
The platform supports GPC (Global Protocol for Community-Scale GHG Emissions) for community-wide inventories, ISO 14064 for organizational GHG reporting, TCFD for climate financial disclosure, GRI for sustainability reporting, and CDP for environmental disclosure. Canadian emission factors from the National Inventory Report are pre-loaded. The Ontario electricity grid emission factor is updated annually.
Yes. Corporate emissions cover municipal operations (buildings, fleet, infrastructure) across Scope 1, 2, and 3. Community emissions estimate municipality-wide GHG by sector: residential, commercial/institutional, industrial, transportation, waste, and agriculture. Both inventories use GPC-aligned methodology and contribute to FCM PCP reporting.
