Transit Manager
From Oversight to Optimization
The Transit Manager's daily workflow — monitoring system-wide performance, reviewing ridership trends, ensuring AODA paratransit compliance, directing service adjustments, and driving data-driven route planning decisions with AI-powered analytics.
Overview
System-wide dashboard
The operations dashboard provides a single-screen view of fleet status, on-time performance, active service alerts, ridership volume, fare revenue, and paratransit trip summary — with auto-refresh every 60 seconds.
The Transit Dashboard (spec 6.6) displays today's ridership, on-time performance percentage, fleet status (vehicles in-service, deadheading, out-of-service), active service alerts, paratransit trip summary (completed, denied, no-shows), and fare revenue. Route-level drill-down shows per-route on-time performance, ridership, and load factors. Monthly KPI tracking displays progress against CUTA benchmarks and Year 1 targets.
Performance
On-time monitoring
Track real-time on-time performance by route and system-wide — with threshold alerts when vehicles run more than 5 minutes late. Historical trending shows weekly, monthly, and year-over-year patterns.
On-Time Performance Monitoring (spec 2.2) compares actual arrival and departure at each stop to the schedule in real-time. The system calculates on-time percentage using the ±3 minute window standard. Route-level and system-wide dashboards show on-time rates with drill-down to individual trips. Historical data reveals patterns by route, day type, time period, and weather conditions — enabling evidence-based schedule adjustments.
Ridership
Data-driven planning
Review ridership analytics by route, stop, day type, and period. AI ridership forecasting projects future demand for route restructuring and service level decisions.
Ridership Reports (spec 6.1) show total ridership by route, day type, and period with year-over-year trends and seasonal patterns. APC data provides stop-level boarding and alighting counts with load factor analysis. AI Ridership Forecasting (spec 7.2) uses historical data, census demographics, land use, development pipeline, and event calendars to project demand. What-if modeling enables testing route changes before implementation.
Equity
Service coverage analysis
Transit equity analysis shows service coverage by income level, age, disability status, and language — identifying gaps in equity-deserving communities and generating council-ready equity reports.
Transit Equity Analysis (spec 7.3) evaluates transit access from equity-priority neighbourhoods to key destinations (employment, healthcare, education, government services). Travel time analysis identifies underserved areas. Equity scoring per route and stop enables evidence-based service planning. Integration with census data and social planning indicators ensures coverage decisions reflect community needs. Council-ready reports support service planning decisions.
Report
CUTA & council analytics
Automated CUTA reporting with annual operating and financial statistics compiled from live data. Council-ready reports with ridership trends, on-time performance, revenue metrics, and equity analysis.
CUTA Reporting (spec 6.5) auto-generates annual operating and financial statistics from live operational data — no manual compilation. Benchmarking data preparation follows CUTA standard definitions for key performance indicators. Financial reports (spec 6.3) track fare revenue by payment method, operating costs by category, revenue-to-cost ratio per route, and provincial gas tax funding. Council-ready performance reports include ridership trends, on-time metrics, paratransit compliance, and equity analysis.
Optimize
Continuous improvement
Use AI-driven insights to restructure routes, adjust frequencies, deploy micro-transit in low-density areas, plan electric bus transitions, and set quarterly performance targets against CUTA benchmarks.
AI Ridership Forecasting & Network Planning (spec 7.2) provides route restructuring recommendations, frequency adjustments, and new route feasibility analysis based on demographic trends, development pipeline, and ridership patterns. Demand-Responsive Transit (spec 7.1) replaces underperforming fixed routes with micro-transit zones, reducing cost-per-rider by 30%+. Electric Bus Fleet Management (spec 7.4) supports transition planning with battery health monitoring, charging optimization, and energy cost analysis. Quarterly reviews measure progress against Year 1 targets and CUTA benchmarks.
