Common questions about Asset Management

Civic Asset Management is a purpose-built infrastructure management platform for Canadian municipalities. Unlike US-centric legacy systems that require extensive configuration, Civic includes O.Reg. 588/17 AMP generation, PSAB PS 3150 TCA accounting, OSIM bridge inspections, FIR Schedule 51, and Canadian Infrastructure Report Card grading out of the box. You also receive full source code — eliminating vendor lock-in for customization and self-hosting.
Every municipal infrastructure class: roads, bridges & culverts, water distribution, sanitary sewers, stormwater management, buildings & facilities, fleet & equipment, parks & recreation, sidewalks & trails, streetlighting, traffic signals, and land improvements. The hierarchical taxonomy is fully configurable — add custom asset classes, subclasses, and component structures for assets unique to your municipality.
No. Civic integrates bidirectionally with your existing GIS (Esri ArcGIS or QGIS/PostGIS). Asset records created in Civic appear on the map automatically — condition, risk, and age attributes rendered thematically without GIS configuration. GIS power users can also access the full spatial capability for complex analysis, routing, and custom thematic layers.
We import your existing data — spreadsheets, GIS attribute tables, legacy databases, and financial records. The Data Migration Engine validates, deduplicates, and maps your data into the unified register. Historical inspections and work orders are preserved. Train-the-trainer programs and change management support help staff transition from familiar spreadsheet processes to the new platform.
Yes — progressive maturity is the recommended approach. Start with the unified asset register and condition assessment (Maturity Level 1–2). Add risk-based prioritization and lifecycle planning as inspection data accumulates (Level 3). Enable predictive analytics and IoT when ready (Level 4). Activate digital twin for critical assets at full maturity (Level 5). All capabilities are included in the licence — activate when ready.
