Architecture Overview

Civic Forestry & Urban Canopy Manager is built on a microservices architecture with a React-based web client, GIS-native spatial engine, API gateway, and PostgreSQL/PostGIS database engine. Each functional domain — tree inventory, risk assessment, permit management, work orders, canopy analysis, and ecosystem services — operates as an independently deployable microservice. The platform processes LiDAR point-cloud data and aerial imagery for canopy classification, supports offline-capable mobile field applications for crew operations, and renders interactive tree maps with clustering for inventories exceeding 500,000 trees. Full source code licence means your IT team can inspect, modify, and extend any component.

Microservices Architecture

Civic Forestry decomposes municipal urban forestry functionality into independently deployable microservices. Each service owns its domain logic, data store, and API contract — enabling independent scaling of computationally intensive services like canopy analysis and ecosystem benefit calculation.

Deployment Model

Civic Forestry is delivered as a full source code licence — your municipality receives the complete codebase including the spatial processing engine and can deploy however best fits your operational requirements. This is not a SaaS subscription.

01

Managed Cloud — Canadian-hosted infrastructure managed by Civic with dedicated spatial processing nodes (recommended)

02

Self-Hosted — deploy on your own on-premises or private cloud infrastructure using the full source code

03

Hybrid — cloud application with integration to on-premises GIS and asset management systems via secure API gateway
